Mercedes-Benz Financial Tips: Down Payment Guide

March 10th, 2023 by

When you take out a new loan from our Mercedes-Benz financial department, you’re going to also have to place a down payment. If you’re not sure what that means or how much you’ll need to pay, the experts here at Mercedes-Benz of Los Angeles can answer your questions.

What is a Down Payment?

Simply put, the down payment is the first payment that you make on your vehicle. When you decide to finance a new Mercedes-Benz car, you place a down payment and then take out a loan for the rest of the vehicle’s cost. Then you can pay that loan off over time.

You may not have to have enough money to pay the entire car’s price all at once, however, you do need to have enough money to make a significant down payment.

How Much Do I Pay?

The typical down payment is usually about 10 to 20 percent of the car’s price. This is enough to be a significant payment upfront, but it’s not so much that you feel like it’s going to take forever to save up for your dream car.

There are a few reasons to think about just how much of a down payment you’re making though. The larger the down payment, the smaller your car loan is going to be. That means that the size of your down payment ends up affecting how much interest you’ll end up paying over the course of your loan term.

If your credit score isn’t the highest and you end up getting loan offers with higher interest rates, it may be wise to make a larger down payment. Putting down 30, 40, or even 50 percent can drastically reduce how much you’ll pay for your new Mercedes-Benz car in total.
