Mercedes-AMG F1 Petronas Side View [mercedesamgf1.com] Pretty much every kid who ever sat behind the wheel of a go-kart has dreamt about growing up and being in an actual race. Rarely, however, do they achieve this dream. That’s precisely what happened with Lewis Hamilton*, who’s considered a hero at Mercedes-Benz of Los Angeles.

From Karting to Formula One

Born in Hertfordshire in England, Hamilton started karting at age eight. Just five years later, he joined what was then called the McLaren-Mercedes Young Driver Programme and promptly proceeded to rack up wins. In 2003, he won the British Formula Renault Championship, the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2005, and the GP2 Series in 2006.

An Historic Debut

In 2007, Hamilton debuted on the Formula One circuit, the first Black driver to do so. He set several records in his first season and missed out on winning by just one point. In 2008, Hamilton won his first title with an overtake on the last lap. At the time, he was the youngest-ever Formula One World Champion.

Record-Setting Performances

In 2013, Hamilton signed on with Mercedes and won several more races over the next decade. He has seven Formula One World Drivers’ Championship titles, which are tied for the most all-time, and he holds the records for most wins, pole positions, and podium finishes. 2024 will be this legendary driver’s last season with the Silver Arrows.

Mercedes-AMG® F1 E Performance

Hamilton has driven different Mercedes-Benz cars for Formula One, but his current vehicle is the Mercedes-AMG® F1 E Performance, also known as the W15. This car is a true engineering marvel. It’s powered by a 1.6-liter, six-cylinder engine that generates more than 1,000 horsepower. It has a 0-to-60-mph time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 207 mph.
